What is Dreamchaos.net?
Dreamchaos.net is a domain I registered several years ago in hopes of putting up a web server. I finally got the server itself up and running two years ago, hosting for a short time at a friend's house, then moving the machine to a datacenter in California. Thraxus jumped in to help me maintain the machine with hardware donations and such, and became co-owner. The machine is a general hosting point for artists, with a furry bent towards it, but not exclusively so. We run the server for whoever needs hosting.
What network connection do you have?
We're currently sitting at Fraar.com (hosted by ISC.org) in Redwood City, CA. We share the rental of a rack with several other miscelanious servers, and have a 100mbit link up to the datacenter's backbone. The datacenter itself has two OC3s and one DS3 coming in, so there's plenty of bandwidth. Current benchmarks show our server able to push 3 to 4 megabytes a second. Of course, our limit is much lower than that, but its still a LOT of bandwidth.. The datacenter also has an obscene amount of local power storage, so an unexpected outage caused by outside sources is nearly impossible. Hours worth of battery backups can keep the datacenter running. The server currently has an uptime of 47 days (as of this writing. I had to do a kernel rebuild.) and runs Debian Linux.
I'm sure I'll add more useful stuff to this later ;>
